COMIC STRIP TEASED • ONE SCRIPT • MULTIPLE VISIONS
Panel 1: We see Ootanga, a muscular black man, standing knee-deep in the swamp water, flipping another man backwards over his body. Ootanga is wearing a leopard skin loin cloth and has dreadlocks. The other man is painted white, has a big scary “witch doctor” mask, while wearing a loin cloth and thong necklace. The witchdoctor is falling backwards in mid-air, chest up, with his back facing down toward the water. There is a loose spear that has slipped his grasp and is positioned straight-up underneath him. We can see reeds and a waters edge, along with rippling activity and splashing in the water. Floating text reads, “The ways of jungle justice are many and mystic...”
Panel 2: A three-quarter bird’s eye view of Ootanga standing, looking down over the spear sticking out of the water, point up. Ripple rings are flowing outward from the shaft and on both sides of the spear are the other man’s forearm and hands sticking out of the water in outstretched agony. The man impaled himself at the bottom of the swamp on his own spear. Text reads, “... as the weapon, by some strange force, is often turned against the wielder.”
